If you're a woman in your 30s or 40s, you've probably seen this post in a Facebook group more than once:
"I'm looking for someone to travel with."
Every time I see it, I understand exactly where they're coming from.
As we get older, it becomes harder to coordinate schedules, budgets, vacation days, and responsibilities. Before you know it, another year has gone by, and that trip you've been dreaming about is still sitting on your bucket list because you were waiting for someone else to be available.
Here's the thing I've learned through my own travels: sometimes the best trips begin with people you haven't met yet.

4 new friends, 1 memorable meal!
Waiting for the Right Friend Can Mean Waiting Forever
We've all said, "We should plan a trip together!" But between work, kids, finances, and everyday life, those plans often stay just that-plans.
I've realized that if I wait for one specific person to be available, there's a good chance the trip simply won't happen.
Life is busy, and that's nobody's fault. But I also don't want someone else's calendar to determine whether I get to experience the world.
Your Best Friend Isn't Always Your Best Travel Partner
This might sound strange, but hear me out.
It's a little like living with your best friend. Just because you love someone doesn't automatically mean you're compatible roommates.
Travel can be the same way.
One person wants to sleep in while the other is up at sunrise. One loves museums, another wants to relax by the pool. One plans every hour, while the other prefers to wander.
None of these travel styles are wrong, they're just different.
Sometimes the best way to protect a great friendship is to recognize that you don't have to take every trip together.
Why It's Surprisingly Easy to Meet People While Traveling
One of my favorite things about traveling with new people is that everyone starts in the same position.
Nobody knows anyone.
That might sound intimidating, but I've actually found it makes people more open.
When everyone arrives solo, conversations happen naturally. You ask where someone is from over breakfast, end up sharing a table at dinner, or discover you both wanted to explore the same market that afternoon.
Because everyone joined for a similar reason—to travel and connect—there's less pressure and more openness than you might expect.

Your new travel friends can take just as great pictures as your old ones!
Some Friendships Last a Week. Others Last for Years.
One of my favorite travel memories actually started with someone I had never met before.
We met while traveling in Paris, stayed in touch afterward, and years later we met up again in Spain. If I had decided I only wanted to travel with people I already knew, that friendship never would have existed.
I also think there's something beautiful about the friendships that only last for a trip.
For one week, your lives intersect. You share incredible meals, unforgettable adventures, and memories that neither of you will forget. Then you head home carrying a little piece of each other's story.
Not every friendship has to last forever to be meaningful.
Don't Wait to Start Exploring
If you've been putting off a trip because you don't have the "right" person to go with, maybe it's time to rethink what the right travel companion looks like.
Some of the best experiences happen when you step outside your comfort zone and give yourself the chance to meet people you never would have crossed paths with otherwise.
That's one of the reasons I love small group travel so much. You don't have to navigate a new destination completely on your own, but you also don't have to spend months trying to coordinate everyone's schedules. You simply show up, knowing everyone is there for the same reason—to experience something incredible together.

Shared meals are where the real connection happens.
